Michael Barber is a musical director, composer and musician who studied jazz piano and composition at Humber College in Toronto. His career as a musician has taken him to New York City, Europe, the Caribbean, and across Canada. As a musical director, Michael has worked on over 50 professional shows in theatres across Canada in musicals such as Singing in the Rain, Anne of Green Gables, Lucky Stiff, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, West Side Story, Bat Boy, The Fantasticks, Once on This Island, California Dreaming II, Footloose and Closer than Ever just to name a few.

Michael has composed two original musicals, both of which were produced in 2005: Blackbeard's Ghost, which he co-wrote with Caroline Smith, and The Hollow, written and directed by Mump and Smoot's Michael Kennard. In 2006, Michael joined the orchestra as keyboard player for Monty Python's Spamalot, and Martin: Short: Fame Becomes Me at the Canon Theatre and Lord of the Rings at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto.

Michael's jazz credits include International Beaches Jazz Festival, Toronto Street Festival, the Rex Hotel, the Montreal Bistro, and Jay Boehmer's jazz album Don't Look Back just to name a few. Last year Michael arranged, produced, and led his trio on the CD So In Love with Nathalie Nadon.

Michael is currently working at the Stratford Festival under Music Supervisor Rick Fox, and he shortly begins work on his fourth show at Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius as Musical Director of The Rocky Horror Show.
